Playing is a big part of a cat's life. In order for them to keep a well balanced attiude and to grow properly they need lots of play toys. Some toys are just for eye candy for the pet owner, but my cats, and yours I am sure, are genuinely attracted by some of the following items you can find around your home.
I have experimented with many different play/amusement items over the years that I have had the pleasure to have cats in my life. Here is a list of toys that they have dearly loved and continue to love.
Boxes. I have cut holes in boxes, and taped them together to make multi level play areas, Cats love boxes, especially wh they are new to the house with all of the new smells and textures.
Sacks from the store. I cut the looped hand grips so that the cat will not get one hung around his neck. I never let pets play with plastic sacks unsupervised, they can smother, but they will have lots of fun playing with them while I put up the groceries.
Papers in a pile. Either crumpled newspapers piled up or crumpled christmas wrapping paper is a sure way to give cats a fun environment. They hide in the pile and run through it at times. This can go on for hours.
Round cat tracks with balls contained in them. They love these, I call them their pool tables. Often I can hear them playing pool late at night. I have one that is enclosed and has a ball inside the track and one that is open with cardboard in the middle of it. They never tire of these.
String tipped wands. I started with yarn on the end then moved to twine and ended up with plastic coated clothes line(taped on the ends). I have taped crunchy paper to the end of it for added excitement as they try to catch it and take it away.
Feather wands. These are great. They have a bell on the end and some feathers. They flex and I use several at once to keep all of the pets busy. They cost around 5 bucks and I replace the feathers once they tear them all out with taped on curly ribbons.
Catnip filled mice. The ones that I use are refillable and have velcro that pulls apart on the bottom to fill the toy.
Balls of any sort. These keep the pets busy until they lose them. I keep something around to get them out from under furniture where they often end up.
Pens straws and eyeglasses. They love to carry these around and push them around, often onto the floor.
Robot mouse. This one squeaks and says na na na na na and laughs when touched. It also moves a little. They will play with this for an hour or so.
I keep most of their toys put up when not in use. Either in a tupperware with a lid or in a closet.
