• Tasty Turkey and Liver Patties 5/27/08

This is an original recipe that I have developed after struggling with cooking chicken thighs and tenders for years.

You need the following to cook this recipe:

1.Precooked white rice, approximately 1 cup per lb. of meat.

    2. Ground turkey, You might want to cook up several tubes of it and save it in the fridge for snacks for you and the cats.

    3. Beef or calf liver. I usually get a package of it.

    4. V8 low sodium vegetable juice, 1 cup for several lbs. of meat and/or pasta sauce, (1/2 cup of each if used together).

To begin, precook the package of liver to just done(I fry it under a pan lid with a little beer added as it cooks, to keep it from overcooking.)

Once it is cooked, set it aside to cool so that you can handle it, then cut it into strips or small pieces with scissors. You can also blend it into a mush and add to the meat.

While the liver is cooling mix in the rice and the ground turkey. The rice is used to give cats bulk and firm up their stools. Cooked rice can be added to all canned cat foods.

To your rice/ turkey mixture add your choice of either low sodium V8 or pasta sauce. I use my hands to mix this.

I then add the liver pieces(cut them small with scissors) and mix well.

My cats tend to not want to eat liver by itself, so mixing it with the ground turkey eliminates that problem and provides them with iron, something that my cats tend to be low in.

I then drop blobs of it in the skillet and cover with a loose fitting lid. When it gets hotter I add a little beer to keep it a lower temperature and sweeten the mixture.

After being cooked thoroughly, I cool the patties in the cool oven or in the refrigerator, they tend to be safer in there than sitting out.

Once cooled, I give some to the waiting cats and have a nibble or two myself. This dish is very satisfying to the pets and comparable in price to todays' inflated cat foods.
